Another Chautauqua weekend has come and passed, this year came with beautiful weather and a large crowd. My daughter and I walked and walked looking at paintings and handmade crafts, and stopping to listen to music here and there. We also completed some crafts of our own at the River Valley Financial kids craft tent. This was a haven for kids and parents alike. Through it all, I think my daughter’s favorite part was eating ice cream and listening to jazz at the foot of Broadway. She loves jazz, and she loves ice cream even more.
The Chautauqua makes me think of all the great artists we have here locally, and how available Fine Art and Crafts are in Madison all the time. I was searching for a wedding present for a friend of mine at the festival, and though I found some great pieces, I didn’t see exactly what I wanted. So most likely I will stop in the Artisan’s Gallery at Madison Table and Light, and pick up some locally made pottery.
It seems there are more and more talented artists, and more galleries opening all the time. I always start my Christmas shopping right here, and usually find most of my gifts in Madison. It’s great to give something unique that you can’t find anywhere else. And it feels great knowing that I’m supporting our community and people in it!
Chautauqua comes and goes, but great art is always here! Happy shopping!
